Fast Pass +

Things you will need to be able to participate in the Fast Pass +

  • ·         An RFID enabled media (either card or Magic Band)

  • ·         Be within 60 days of your resort reservation (off property stays are expected to be added in the future.

  • ·         A Disney account.

  • ·         Either access to a computer or a phone with internet capabilities.  Download My Disney Experience app to your phone or go to the My Disney Experience tab on the Disney World site

That is it!   That is all you need to get started.

So let’s get started with some basics.  The system is very easy to navigate, as long as you take the time to read each line before you press a button.  When you choose FastPass+ from the drop down window of My Disney Experience, it takes you to your dates.  From there you choose the date you want to select your FP+ for and then you get an option to choose the park.  Remember, currently, you can only choose one park.  Park hopping is not supported by this system (maybe an upgrade coming???)  After you get the day and park…then you are presented with a few choices.  Since almost every single attraction at Disney is in the process of adding a FastPass+ entrance we can only assume that they will eventually have FP+ at each attraction.  Currently you only get a few options.  I think Animal Kingdom has four options, while Magic Kingdom has several.  Another point to remember is you cannot choose the same ride or attraction more than once in a day.

After you make your selections, you are presented an option to set the priority.  This seems to mean more of a which order you want to do them as opposed to an actual priority.  Then you get three or four options for times. One will be selected as best choice, and if there is a conflict with a dining reservation, it will be noted.    So, what do you do if NONE of the options work for you.  Choose the one that best suits you.  You will get a chance to go back in and change the times for each individual FP+.

Notice, I said each individual FP+.  You have to do each day…one at a time.  And you have to change each attraction …one at a time.

Good news is, you can delete people that don’t want to ride a particular ride, like I will not ride Expedition Everest…however, it does not give you an option to choose a fourth attraction for the person who chooses not to ride that particular ride. (maybe another update?)

The only issues I had for setting up our trip in December … Everyone needs to be on the Friends/Family list of everyone!  Meaning, my son and daughter in law are both on my Family list, and I can make the choices for them…but my son is not a friend or family member to my daughter in law…so we are currently unable to make FP+ selections for them on the night they are doing a different park than the rest of us!

Another issue is that knowing that more items will be released later, makes it hard to decide what to delete in order to get the one item we might want.  Like, Fantasmic was not an option for us when I did them yesterday morning, but was later in the evening.  Unfortunately, our dining reservation conflicts with the timing, and I have to delete either  Toy Story, Tower of Terror or Rock N Rollercoaster to get it.  While I have no problem deleting either of the roller coasters, the rest of my party might…ok they WILL!

Another problem is…when you make a change, you only get the option to change the attraction or the time…not both!  So if you have Its Tough to be a Bug  at 9 am, and you really want to get the Safari at noon…it requires two separate transactions.

Over all I was really impressed with the way it worked.  I cannot wait to get  to use some of these FP+.

Now, for a more in depth review (including a video of how to do them) of Fast Pass +, here is a website.

Magic Bands

What exactly are these “Magic Bands” and what is all the hullabaloo about?

Depending on who you talk to or what you read, Magic Bands are either the worst thing to hit Disney since the latest price increase or the best thing to happen to Disney since Uncle Walt first thought it up!

I personally think it is somewhere in between.

Currently they are still in testing phase, so all reports so far are based on test data.  Disney thinks they are going great, with little or no problems.  Those haters of all things new are less than enthusiastic about them, pointing out that in limited use it is hard to get real data.
So, let’s start with what we do know.

Disney has (or is in the process of) changing all their media over to RFID.  (Radio-frequency Identification)  When we were there in June, they had already changed over the room keys, charging privileges, and access to the gates over to the RFID.  I can tell you they were much easier to use than the old cards were…If your arms were full when you got to the room they opened the door easily…and when driving, it was so easy to get those security gates to open…ONE try and poof they magically opened for us!

The ultimate goal seems to be to have everything, including tickets, dining plan, photopass info added to the RFID.  Being a busy mom, I can tell you, fewer things to keep up with in the park is a good thing.

Last June, we took our youngest two and our oldest granddaughter to Disney to celebrate my youngest daughter’s 13th birthday.  Between grabbing our tickets for fast pass, grabbing our photopass, and pulling my phone and camera out of my bag about 20 times a minute, I managed to lose my Grand Daughter’s ticket.  At first it was not a big deal …as we were leaving Magic Kingdom heading back to Coronado Springs Resort for a swimming break, it hit me…we were coming back to the park for the dessert party!  We had no ticket for her to get back in with!

A trip to the concierge desk solved our problem, but it taught me how important it is to have a streamlined list of things to carry in the parks.

Now, true, there are kids that may have problems wearing these things on their wrists all day.  Some Moms and Dads will not want to have their arms get sweaty…and I have heard of the “Farmer’s Tan” aversion.  I have also heard people that have actually used them during the heat say they weren’t that bad.
And if your child is too young to understand why they have to wear the bracelet…are you really going to let them go off by themselves?   Are they really going to be riding at Disney without you? If you don’t want a “Farmer’s Tan” then clip it on your belt loop, or attach it to your bag.

Some people will complain about anything new.  I however, am anxiously awaiting my trip in 61 days and 20 hours…I have customized my Magic Bands and can’t wait to see how they work!  (Stay tunes for a complete review once we get back!)

My Disney Experience showed our bands were available for customization a few days ago.  It was really cool to let each kid choose their color and what name they wanted to be on the inside of the band.  While my 13 year old was upset that her favorite color, purple, was not available she was beyond happy that she could change it to her nickname. We are all anxiously awaiting for them to ship the end of October!

Now, if you want to read some more about the bands from someone who has actually seen them, here is a good blog post that will give you some more of the technical insight, as well as some of the options for further customization.

Welcome

Welcome to my Travel Blog!

In it I want to showcase all things travel and specifically Disney!

Our family takes at least one trip to Disney each year, and usually one to the beach as well.  I take a million pictures, and leave them on my computer to enjoy their life .  It is time for them to see the light of Day!

Now that I have been a Travel Specialist with Archer Luxury Travel for a little over a year, I thought it was time to start a blog.  We will chat about Disney, share some tips about Disney, answer some questions about Disney, and in general explore the great big world of travel!

So, sit back and get comfortable.  First blog post will be up in  a bit.
